The Status OK means the requested page or image was found and loaded properly in a browser.
301
The page or image requested was Moved Permanently to a new location. This is the preferred method of redirecting for most pages or websites.
302
The requested bile was Found, but is temporarily located at another URI (Uniform Resource Identifier).
404
The server did Not Found the page or image
requested. It was unable to locate the URL (Uniform Resource
Locator).

Accounting
The systematic process by which financial transctions about a business are interpreted, classified, recorded, summarized, reported and communicated.
Accounting Software
It is a computer program (also called software or application) that handles accounting transactions. There are different type of accounting programs from simple ones that just handle basic functions such are record keeping and check writing, to more complete ones with all accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and so forth. These functions are called modules in the programming lexicon.
Accounts Payable
An accounting / financial term which identifies money owed by the business for services or merchandise it bought to suppliers
on account. It is current liability on a balance sheet showing the business' debt.
Accounts Receivable
An accounting / financial term which identifies money owed to the business for services or merchandise it sold to customers on account. It is current asset on a balance sheet showing the business' liquidity.
Affordable
Something that could be afforded. This term was mostly used to identify the rent charge of a unit reserved for occupancy in a household.
Analysis
The term could have variations when defining it for a specific
area; however, the common understanding is the exercise of
examination and evaluation of the relevant information of
something to be analyzed.
AP
An acronym for Accounts Payable
Application
In software an application is an executable program designed to perform a specific or several functions.
Example: StockBase POS performs the billing, inventory control and point of sale functions among others. Microsoft's Excel is another example.
In the banking industry, an application is used to apply for a mortgage loan. It contains personal and financial information about the borrower(s).
For some health products or cosmetics, application refers to the action when applying the produce to the skin, hair, face and so forth.
Appointment
It could mean a scheduled time to do something such as doctor visit or something like that. It could also mean to appoint a properly qualified person in a specific position in the classified service (political or labor).
AR
An acronym for Accounts Receivable
ASCII
American Standard Code
Information Interchange a standard
code for representing characters as numbers
that is used on most microcomputers, computer terminals, and printers.
ASP
This acronym has different meanings. As a Web server extension
by Microsoft means Active Server
Pages. For video codes such as XviD and Nero Digital
means Advanced Simple Profile.
As a business that serves clients with computer needs, it means
Application Service Provider.
Aspect Ratio
The ratio of height to width.
Asset
Anything that an individual or a company/entity owns that
has a cash value. These includes property, savings, bank accounts,
stocks, bonds, real estate, personal belongings, debts owed and so on.

Back
There are too many explanations based on the usage, these are few of them:
- Vertebrae forming the axis of the skeleton and protecting the spinal cord; posterior part of the human body
- Be behind someone or approving of; I backed such and such as president

Bar Code
It is a printed code consisting of a series of vertical bars that vary in width. Bar codes
are useful in a variety of areas such as retailing, libraries, work in progress, tracking documents and many more.

C
Caller Id
A service provided by a telephone company that allows the recipient of an incoming call to know before answering the phone number and name of the party originating the call.
Cash
It is a term referring to money. It comes from the Tamil* word Kasu which meant currency. In the old days many different liquid assets which could be easily converted to currency where referred to cash.
Now a day it refers also to checks, money orders, cashier's checks, bank drafts or traveler's checks.
(*) a language spoken since prehistoric times by the Tamil people in southern India and Sri Lanka.
Character String
A sequence of characters stored in a computer and treated
as a single data item.
Checksum
A number calculated from data which is used to ensure that
the data was transferred correctly.
Clipboard
A holding area to which information can be copied in order
to transfer it from one application to another.
CPI
An acronym for characters per
inch.
CRM
Acronym for Customer Relationship Management; which is an industry
term for software solutions that help enterprise businesses manage customer
relationships in an organized way.
D
Database
It is a collection of data organized in a way so that it can easily be accessed, managed and updated.
There are different types of database architecture: network, relational and hierarchy; the most commonly
used nowadays is the relational database.
Debit Card
It is a plastic card like a credit card issued by a financial institute such as bank, credit union or
savings and loans which allows the customer to withdraw funds on deposit or line of credit in the customer's
account using an automated teller machine. Some merchants accept debit cards, treating them the same as cash.
DPI
An acronym for dots per
inch; the number of pixels or printer dots
per linear inch.
E
eCommerce
Stands for Electric Commerce, which is the action of conducting business communication and transactions over networks
and through computers. It became very popular with the Internet boom in the late 90s.
Easy
Requires little effort to be accomplished or acquired.
F
Finance
It addresses the ways in which individuals, businesses and other
entities manage, raise, allocate and use money and other assets.
As a verb, to finance is to provide monetary backing
to an individual or any-type of organization.
Font
A complete collection of characters, in a consistent style
and size. This includes upper and lower case letters, numerals,
punctuation, ligatures, and reference marks.
Free
A word with too many definitions, these are just some examples:
- Free download; get a copy of the software for free
- Not in jail or slavery; being at liberty
- Without a cost; get a free copy
- Without addition; sugar free
- Without a contract or obligation; free to go
- Complementary; buy 1 get 1 free
- Duty free; it has not taxes

Games
It is a structured or semi-structured recreational activity involving one or
more players with goals and rules which may also serve for education or stimulation purposes.
General Ledger
An accounting book where all final entries summarize the monetary transactions
(in the form of credits and debits) of all other accounts such as liability, reserve,
capital, income and expense accounts.
GL
An acronym for General Ledger
Group
A number of people or things placed together.
H
Hardware
It refers to an objective that can be touched with certain hard structure.
It is usually referred to military weaponry or computer equipment.
Help Desk
It is a place that assists end users with technical and functional questions and problems.
In a small company is run by one person more or less organized of how to handle the common problems.
In a large company it is an organized group of experts using special software to log, track and
document problems or issues.
I
IBM
It is an acronym for International Business Machines.
The company was founded in 1911 as a typewriter and punch card tabulation machines company.
In the 50s entered the computers market, which dominated with mainframe and minicomputers.
In the early 80s launched the IBM PC, which became the industry standard running with
Microsoft DOS operating system. Nowadays IBM got out of the PC market focusing in hardware,
operating systems, database systems, and applications.
Imaging
Capturing the visual representation of an object whether a body part or celestial body.
Integrate
To put different groups together.
Integration
Integration is the act of combining two or more separate pieces / groups for a giving purpose.
J
JavaScript
A client-side scripting language that can be embedded into HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) documents to add dynamic features.
Search engines do not index most content in JavaScript. In AJAX, JavaScript has been combined with other technologies to make web pages even more interactive.
JCL
JCL (Job Control Language) Is a command/control language created by IBM to launch applications
and other resources in mini and mainframe operating systems.
K
Key
A string of characters used to license a software application, also known as license key.
Key Field
A string or number used to access and order a file as unique
identifier.
L
Labeling
The process of writing, printing text or graphic information on a label
for an item or product to be displayed or stored.
Label
It comes in different forms and material types, it could be adhesive or not;
however, it is a kind of tag attached to an object for identification purposes.
The most common type is paper stock.
M
Mailing List
It is a list of people, companies or other entities mailing address or in computers
e-mail addresses who subscribed to a periodic mailing distribution on a particular topic
or material. It has become widely used to keep in touch with customers.
Mailorder
It describes the process of buying goods or services by mail delivery.
The customer buys a product or service with a merchant in a remote location.
The purchase could be done over the telephone, by mail or the Internet, and
the good or service is deliver through the Postal Service or Private Carrier
such as UPS, FedEx, etc.
Modulo
A mathematical operation that gives the remainder when
one number is divided by another.

Networking
Mostly use in business, it is a process where you meet people who can be of help to you and being a help to them.
Number
An abstract entity to identify quantity. The Egyptians and the Sumerians had advanced number systems by symbols.

ODBC
An acronym for Opend Database
Connectivity.
Open Database Connectivity
A standard application program
interface (API) developed by Microsoft to
communicate with database management systems.
Offline
A term used to describe when an user is not conneted to a network or Internet.
Operational Business Process
Refers to repetitive business processes performed by
organizations in the context of their day-to-day operations.

Passwords
A series of letters, numbers or special characters (#$%^*&) that creates a unique word of a
given length used to give access to a secure area such as ATM, files, computers and so on.
PC
An acronym for Personal Computer.
Pixels
One of the individual dots that make up a graphical image.
Point of Sale
Literally it means a place where a product or service can be purchased; however,
nowadays point of sale (POS) refers to a software program
that captures data at the time and place of sale.
A point of sale system is the combination of a computer, the POS software and some peripherals such as bar code readers,
optical scanners, magnetic stripe readers, printers, display pole, cash drawer and so on. They can be a stand-along system or
integrated in a network with several users. Beside the sale transactions a POS can handle inventory control,
billing, salesperson's commission and so on.

Acting in advance to deal with an expected difficulty.

Profits
It generally is the making of gain in business activity for the
benefit of the owners of the business. The word comes from Latin
meaning "to make progress", is defined in two different ways, one
for economics and one for accounting.
Pure economic profit is the increase in wealth that an investor
has from making an investment, taking into consideration all costs
associated with that investment including the opportunity cost
of capital. Accounting profit is the difference between retail
sales price and the costs of acquisition (whether by harvest,
extraction, manufacture, or purchase). A key difficulty in measuring
either definition of profit is in defining costs. Accounting profit
may be positive even in competitive equilibrium when pure economic

Q
Quote
When identifying words spoken by someone else. In business terms, a
quote is the cost of doing something; it could be performing a service,
building a house and so on.

Radio button
Small circles in a dialog box, only one of which can be
chosen at a time. Choosing any button with the mouse causes all the
other buttons in the set to be cleared.
ReActive
Tending to be responsive or to react to a stimulus.
Real Time
In computer terms, it is when data is received and immediately updated
or responded without any time delay. In general terms, it is sensing and
responding to external events nearly simultaneously.
Register
A written record of name, event or transaction.

Sales
The action when a good has changed hands or a service has been rendered.
Scalable
Able to be used on a large or small scale without major changes.
Scalable font
A font that can be used to print characters of any size. Many newer laser printers include scalable fonts.
Symbology
A method of representing information by printed characters.
Scanner
A device that enables a computer to read printed or handwritten page.
Start Code
The leading character of a bar code that identifies what kind of bar code it is.
Stop Code
The last character of a bar code that tells the bar code reader when it has reached the end of the code.
T
Tag
In computer terms, it could be a label assigned to identify data in memory,
or in HTML is a sequence of characters that provides formatting specifications.
Task
It is a list of specific actions or activities that must be performed for a given objective.
TrueType Font
An outline typeface that can be scaled or sized to practically any size.
U
Update
The act of bringing information or something up to date.

Utility
A program that assists in the operation of a computer but does
not do the main work for which the computer was bought.

VBA Function
A small program written in Visual Basic
(Application) and used in Microsoft products
like Excel, Access, or Word that returns a result.
Vertical Market
It is oriented to one specific area with similar product or service developed and marketed
using similiar technics and methods.
W
Warranty
It is a written document (guarantee) of a business (manufacturer,
retailer, service provider or other entity) responsibility.
A limited warranty states of under what conditions and for how long
a guarantee that an item or service will work or repair/replace if there is a problem.
Web Site
A collection of pages or files stored on a web server connected and maintained
by a business, organization or individual providing information of different kind.
Web Store
A business conducted over the Internet, aslo see eCommerce.
Workstation
In information technology, workstation refers to any computer connected to a local-area network.
X
XP
This acronym has two well-known definitions:
- For Windows, XP stands for eXPerience. This operating system meant to be a new type of user experience.
- In programming, XP stands for eXtreme Programming which focuses on frequent testing, integration, and user review.

YouTube
The latest acquisition by Google, an amateur video upload and syndication website launched a little bit over a year ago.
Z
Zone Alarm
It is a firewall application developed by Zone Labs that
protects consumers against identity theft and offers an advance
spyware prevention and anti-virus.
